Later, the Assyrian's and Babylonians conquered Oman, and it became a part of the Persian Empire under Cyrus the Great. The Persian's ruled Oman until the 7th century AD when the country was converted to Islam.

Islamic Oman Oman played a Significant role in the spread of Islam throughout the Arabian Peninsula. The Prophet Muhammad sent his envoy, Amr ibn al-As, to Oman in 630 AD to Spread the message of Islam. This led to the Conversion of the Oman is to Islam, and the country became a part of the larger Muslim world.

Sultan Qaboos came to power in 1970 after over throwing his father in a bloodless coup. He immediately set about transforming Oman from a poor, tribal society into a modern, prosperous nation.

Sultan Qaboos invested heavily in infrastructure development, building roads, hospital's, school's, and airport's throughout the country. He also modernized Oman's military and established diplomatic relations with other countries in the region and beyond.
